Galway, Ireland

A weekend getaway to Galway, Ireland, is nothing short of a soulful retreat, where the warmth of the locals resonates as strongly as the captivating melodies of traditional Irish music drifting through the cobblestone streets. From the moment you set foot in this charming city, the genuine kindness of the Irish people becomes immediately apparent. Whether sharing a friendly greeting in the local pub or receiving heartfelt recommendations from a passerby, the hospitality is infectious and adds an extra layer of joy to the experience.

Galway's lively atmosphere, especially in places like Eyre Square and the Latin Quarter, invites visitors to become immersed in the city's cultural heartbeat. Quaint shops, lively pubs, and vibrant street performers create an ambiance that is both spirited and welcoming. As you stroll along the Claddagh, gaze at the iconic Spanish Arch, or explore the medieval remnants of the city, there's a pervasive sense of history and community that only deepens the connection to this special place.

For many, Galway becomes a happy place, a destination where the beauty of the landscape, the rich cultural heritage, and, above all, the kindness of the locals intertwine to create a sense of belonging. Whether savoring the flavors of traditional Irish cuisine, enjoying the lively nightlife, or simply taking in the breathtaking views of Galway Bay, every moment in this city feels like a warm embrace, making it a cherished haven for those seeking respite and genuine connection. Basically what I’m trying to say is that I love Ireland and I’ve never had a bad moment in this beautiful country. I make it a tradition to spend at least one solo weekend a year in Ireland and truly just let myself have fun with no plans. Galway is actually the perfect spot to base yourself when you’re going to see the iconic Cliffs of Moher and Dunguaire Castle.

Galway, renowned for its lively atmosphere and rich cultural heritage, boasts an array of iconic pubs that contribute to the city's vibrant social scene. Among the best pubs in Galway, the historic Taaffes Bar stands out as a traditional gem, where live Irish music echoes through the centuries-old walls, creating an authentic and spirited ambiance. Nestled in the heart of the Latin Quarter, The Quays Pub offers a blend of modern and traditional Irish hospitality, providing a welcoming space to enjoy a pint of Guinness while immersing oneself in the lively chatter of locals and visitors alike. Please have a local show you have to drink a proper Guinness.

For those seeking an intimate and artistic setting, Tigh Neachtain, with its Victorian décor and extensive whiskey collection, stands as a favorite haunt. Meanwhile, the Roisin Dubh is a hotspot for live music, attracting both renowned artists and emerging talents, making it a must-visit for music enthusiasts. Each pub in Galway tells a unique story, blending a cozy atmosphere with the rich cultural tapestry of the city, ensuring that every patron leaves with a memorable experience and a taste of the legendary Irish craic. Oh and don’t skip the Galway Distillery.

Cozy Accommodations

Since Galway is a small city there isn’t an abundance of hotels to choose from. Pretty much everywhere is walkable but, there are some areas that are more convenient than others. I would personally recommend the The Dean. It only opened a few years ago and its such a fine vibe.

My other hotel recommendations include: Glenlo Abbey, The Galmont, and Leonardo Hotel.
