Copenhagen, Denmark

Embarking on a journey to Copenhagen is like stepping into a fairytale where historic charm meets modern flair. This Scandinavian gem, nestled along the picturesque Baltic Sea, immediately charms you with its enchanting blend of cultural richness and contemporary sophistication. The city's iconic landmarks, from the historic Nyhavn harbor with its vibrant, colorful facades to the majestic Rosenborg Castle, invite exploration, each narrating a chapter of Denmark's captivating history. Copenhagen's commitment to sustainability is evident in its extensive cycling lanes (beware biking cultural is intense and they have the right of way), green spaces like the King's Garden, and innovative urban design (think trampolines in the middle of the street). Copenhagen is truly a beautiful city and one of the cleanest I have ever been to. If your lucky enough to travel during the warmer months you will see summer embraced in a way you have never seen before. The locals are constantly laying out on the docks in the sun and jumping from the sea to saunas. And of course if you travel in the winter months you must embrace the Danish concept of hygge, think cozy ambiance of local cafes, savoring the renowned Danish pastries and rich coffee. The city's culinary scene, featuring a multitude of Michelin-starred restaurants and bustling street food markets, tantalizes the taste buds with diverse flavors. Whether navigating the serene canals, admiring cutting-edge architecture, or indulging in the laid-back lifestyle, Copenhagen promises a travel experience that seamlessly weaves together tradition, innovation, and an undeniable sense of well-being.

Culinary Delights

Copenhagen's food scene is truly mouthwatering, boasting a diverse array of Michelin-starred restaurants and vibrant street food markets that showcase the city's gastronomic prowess. From traditional Danish smørrebrød to innovative New Nordic cuisine, there is something for everyone to drool over. The bustling Torvehallerne market is a food lover's haven, offering fresh, local produce and artisanal delights. Copenhagen’s most notable restaurant has to the three-star Michelin restaurant Noma. Now I have never been there but, if your lucky enough to go before they close just know I’m very jealous. As I have mentioned in other posts I don’t love tasting menus but, I would make an exception for any restaurant referenced in The Bear. IYKYK. Speaking of the The Bear the chicken sandwich Marcus eats is divine and can be found at Poulette. Oh and the bakery is Hart Bageri. It’s actually my favorite bakery in the city and recommended to me by a local.

Copenhagen is one of the those cities where you should never skip a meal. In actuality you should probably just be constantly eating and drinking, it’s really the only way to try as much as you can.

First off let’s talk breakfast. Unlike many other European cities Copenhagen takes breakfast serious. My absolute favorite breakfast can be found at Studio X Kitchen. I daydream about their eggs. I also recommend Seks, Atelier September, and Apotek 57.

There are so many fun bars in the city but, the only you absolutely should try is Balderdash. The bartenders are amazing and I truly have had the best nights there. The bar is actually predominately locals but, there are definitely other tourists there as well.

Now I’m not going to go on and on about restaurants because there is too much to say but, here are my favorites at the moment: Barr, Delphine, Baest, Esmee, Kodbeyens Fiskebar, Osteria 16, Aamanns, and Popl.

Cozy Accommodations

Copenhagen's hotel scene is a harmonious blend of modern luxury and Nordic design, offering a diverse range of accommodations to suit every traveler's preferences. From boutique hotels nestled in the historic heart of the city, where guests can immerse themselves in the cobblestone streets of districts like Nyhavn, to sleek, contemporary establishments with panoramic views of the waterfront and cutting-edge amenities, Copenhagen caters to a spectrum of tastes. Many hotels in the city prioritize sustainability, reflecting Copenhagen's commitment to eco-friendly practices.

I personally don’t think there is a bad area in Copenhagen to stay. I generally try to stay in the Indre by neighborhood or just not too far from Nyhavn. My recommendations include: Hotel Sanders, Skt. Petri, 71 Nyhavn Hotel, and the Admiral Hotel.
